Enabling Rockaway Homeowners to Prepare for Coastal Flooding

Resource materials developed through a community engagement process with homeowners and climate scientists.

In 2020, RISE brought together climate scientists from Columbia University, Stevens Institute and educators from the New York Hall of Science to develop resource materials for homeowners in the Rockaways to better prepare for flooding, reduce damages from future floods and recover more quickly.

RISE hosted a series of workshops with local residents and collected surveys from Rockaway homeowners to have a better understanding of where day to day nuisance flood events were taking place.

Below is the link to the Resource Guide for Homeowners to Protect Against Flooding, developed through this process. The public is encouraged to review this FREE guide and share with others in the community, who may benefit from this information.

Thank you to all the local residents who took part in this initiative. We appreciate your time and hope these materials will be helpful.
