Rockaway Market Street @ Beach 60th was the Rockaway peninsula's first outdoor marketplace and promoted fresh, affordable, and regionally grown produce, food products, and homemade crafts.
RISE initiated the market in 2021, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic as part of the Project Underway & Wellness Way Initiative, to create a safe space for the public to convene and purchase fresh locally grown produce and food products, using a neglected demapped roadway to host the market.
RISE employed a team of local youth to staff the market, for three years, under the A-train's elevated tracks at Beach 60th Street, and served as a community hub to bring vibrancy to our neighborhood, while supporting the health and wellness of the Rockaway community.
The market took place every Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., June to October, and offered live music, food sampling, and related activities. The mission of Rockaway Market Street @ Beach 60th was to support local farmers and vendors with opportunities to sell their vegetables, fruits, homemade food products, baked goods, and handmade crafts and products to the general public.
Due to lack of funding in 2025, RISE was no longer able to host the market. We appreciate the support of the community and hope another local market will fill this much needed void.
